Make the Most of Spooky Season in Metro Detroit
October weekends fill up fast around here. Between pumpkin patches, corn mazes, trunk or treats, haunted houses and everything going on for Halloween, there's a lot to squeeze into one month. Here are a few local spots worth checking out.
🎃 Pumpkin Patches & Corn Mazes
Three Cedars Farm | Northville
A great one if you're looking for an easy fall day with the family. Pumpkins, a corn maze, hayrides, cider and donuts, plus plenty for the kids. Parking and admission are free, so you can make as much or as little of a day out of it as you want.
Wiard's Orchards & Country Fair | Ypsilanti
This one has just about everything. Pick your own pumpkins, a corn maze, wagon rides, a petting farm, mini golf and plenty of activities for the kids. The Country Fair runs Wednesday through Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM during the season.
Blake's | Armada
If you want to make a full day out of it, Blake's is always a good option. Pumpkins, a corn maze, cider and donuts, animals and plenty of other fall activities. And once the sun goes down, their Big Apple location has haunted attractions too.
👻 Looking for Something Scarier?
Dearborn Haunted Trail | Dearborn
This one is right in our backyard at Ford Field Park. This year's "Creatures of the Woods" trail runs October 16 through 18, with the regular haunt starting at 7 PM. There's also an 18 and older Witching Hour and a free sensory friendly trick or treating experience on Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM.
Hush Haunted Attraction | Westland
Hush is my executive assistant's favorite spooky season adventure, and if you actually want to be scared, this one might be for you too. They combine multiple haunted experiences with movie quality sets, live actors and a Halloween midway. They add new sections every year, so even if you've been before, there's always something new waiting to scare your socks off.
Blake's Haunted Attractions | Armada
Haunted hayrides, zombie paintball and a three story haunted barn. Their haunted season runs through November 1 at Blake's Big Apple.
🍂 Rob's Recommendation: Hallowe'en at Greenfield Village
If you've never done Hallowe'en at Greenfield Village, put it on your list. This has easily become one of my favorite Halloween traditions to do with the family. They completely transform the Village with jack o' lanterns, costumed characters, live performances and plenty of Halloween surprises along the way.
It's always fun for the kids, but it's just as cool for the adults. It really feels like fall in Michigan and it's something I always look forward to. This year it runs October 1 through 25 on select Thursday through Sunday nights. If you want to go, grab tickets early because some dates sell out.
Home in 60 Seconds: Clear Your Gutters
Before all those leaves come down, take a few minutes to clear out your gutters and make sure your downspouts are doing their job. Leaves and debris pile up quickly this time of year, and you don't want to find out there's a problem after everything freezes.
While you're out there, make sure your downspouts are draining water away from the house and not dumping it right next to the foundation. Knock it out now and you won't have to think about it when it's 30 degrees outside.
